Flush your cooling system and change your t-stat(put the original temp back in). If if doesn't help check your fan clutch or look into an electric fan to help.
Im talking coolent temp. I have a new radiator and coolent I also replaced the thermostate. The temp gauge in the dash reads the high end of normal I have the manual gauge hooked to the water port at the rear of the block so Im not sure if Im getting a true reading. can anyone tell me what temp it should be running at under a heavy load.
Does the water pump put out enough volume and pressure? I know that either it works or it doesn't but is it not possible that either the belt is slipping on the water pump pulley or the pump is either restricted with crap or seized?
I guess you could also have airflow restriction from either bugs or flattened fins on the AC condensor (if you have AC) or the fan clutch doesn't work right. The theoretical maximum coolant temperature for a 17 psi, 50/50 coolant/water system is between 260F and 268F so you're still quite far from that. If it stayed around 225F with no load, then that would be a problem. How's the temp with no load at 60mph on the highway? It should stay between 180F and 200F on an average day. (On a gas engine, don't know about diesels.)
On the highway it runs at 190to195 pulling a hill with out the trailer it runs around 205. It has a 192 thermostate in it and that is what is recommented.
