lookin to lift my truck, not alot... just a bit so i dont feel so small.....
anyhoo, wife seems open to it, which is a miracle.
now, the dilema. i called 4wheel parts today to get a price on a hanger kit, like 3.5" is all i want (for now) and the guy insists that a hanger kit will make my ride stiffer than it already is. this seems contrary to what i have read here....
so, i have a couple e-z questions i cannot seem to find answers for by searching. help a meathead out please
1. will the ride get more harsh with a 3.5-4.5" hanger kit (will be using bilstiens) ?
2. if it will remain the same, will i lose the handling "prowess" the sd now sports? (it actually corners extremly well! howls...but she sticks)
3. why doesnt any company offer rear shackles, or hangers for the stock springs in order to ditch these stock blocks, and not have to run 5" blocks in the rear for my upcoming project? i am sure there is a reason...
4. any driveline issues with a 4.5" lift and 35" tires i should be aware of? (i have a x cab, shortbed.)
5. where can i purchase an adjustable track bar?? and cost??
6. and, do i need a track bar relocation bracket if i purchase an adjustable track bar?
dude with a hangar kit you keep your stock springs so the ride aint going to change... as for shocks you could get good ones or bad ones and your ride will reflect your purchase.. you could probably fit 35's under there just dont jump it.. 33s would be a bit better for off road.. truckinsuspension.com sells rear hangars.. most people just use blocks in the back cause it achieves the same result for alot cheaper and ALOT less work than a hangar kit to install.. you wont need to modify any drivelines.. may need a driveline carrier bearing spacer.. use search feature.
good luck
JJ
1. No increase in spring rate.......Bilsteins ride well IMO.
2. .....
3. As was mentioned AIM offers rear hangers and shackles but I wouldn't put them on my truck if you gave them to me (based on issues with other products of theirs).
4. I think you'd be okay...........but since I have a 2 piece rear shaft I'm not positive.
5. Any place that sells Fabtech can get you their adjustable bar which is about the same build as stock with an adjustment (I think around $160-170).
Or you could get the Edge adjustable pan-rod bar is a pretty heavy duty billet piece that is real nice ($230).
6. If you get the Fabtech 3.5" then you won't need a drop trac bracket. If you get the 4.5" (I'm guessing Edge) it comes with a pitman arm and you need the trac bar bracket that goes with it to keep proper steering geometry
The single qualification is, at some point you must have seen, in person or in a picture, a four wheel drive vehicle . Which reminds me....I seem to have seen several former employees of four wheel parts now working at ORu.MMMMMM......... I happen to have an adjustable track bar for sale at a ridiculously low price that would be perfect for your application. My truck still handles like a porsche even with a big lift and tires but I don't recommend driving the way I do.
cwb, since i cannot post an email addy, how would one get in contact with you to say purchase this panhard rod at a rediculously low price?
so, if i go with 3.5" hanger, an adj trac bar, i should not need a trac bar relocation bracket???
btw, it is not edge.... i am not a rich man.
also, the guy at 4wpw got in an argument with me over the fact i have a one piece drive shaft in the rear... he swore i had a carrier bearing, so last night i crawled under the truck.....it has a slip joint, but NO carrier bearing....meatballs!
anyhoo, thanks for the info guys, much appreciated!
you don't need that adjustable crap at this much lift.... anyone trying to pitch you one is NOT your friend.
i see you a smart man and didn't but that 'in crowd' mentality. kudos to you!
i'd talk with another guy at 4 wheel parts.... they might not always be perfect, but usually have competive prices and sometimes you get a guy that knows his ****.
you took it out of context....
i meant, if the hangers did not change the ride, would my truck still handle as well as it does.... which i guess depends on the tires, and air pressure, so it was a lame question....disregard
as for abendx, thanks.
now, it may sound like i am beatin a dead horse..... but i need clarification.
abendix, you said:
you don't need that adjustable crap at this much lift
so, with a 3.5" hanger, would i need a track bar drop bracket? or just the hangers, shocks, and im done???
once again, thanks guys.
