Angry Locking Lugnut Key

Are they all the same and if not where can i get one?

Its on my spare tire. For some reason the idiot that put it on didnt leave the key when he traded in the bronco. So right now im lucky if i dont have a flat because of this stupid lock.

No, they're not the same. Get a cheap socket just a tad smaller than the lock-nut, drive it on with a hammer, then unscrew it with a breaker bar.

Goodluck man, 94van said it best, because I dont think you can buy a universal key (be kinda pointless to own a set of locking lug nuts then)

Maybe that's why they call them "Keys"?

Another suggestion.... You might want to check some tire shops, they accumulate or have several keys, maybe one will fit yours.

Check out what this guy says about locking lug nuts. It's kind of sad but true.

Get a Gator grip socket. It worked on my dads truck (no reason for a lock with stock steel wheels on an S-10 rust bucket). Then you are not wrecking a good socket and no hammering is involved. Here is the link below. I think you can find them in some stores now to.

I forgot about the gator grips, they may work like couleeman said.
As for the link Ironeagle posted... nice page, I subscribed to it.

If i can grip it from the outside of the lug nut with some vice grips, will i be able to turn it? Or does it have to have a key or something in the center to turn it? I have some cheap sockets, multiple sets actually so if the vice grips don't work then ill do the socket. If it doesn't work ill cut off the stud and then just replace it. Man this sucks, i say again whom ever invented these should be mangled.

If you can get a grip with the vice grips and put a pipe over the vice grips for leverage, you should be able to get it. I would spray the stud with something like JB-88 and let it sit for a bit as it probably has not been off for a long time.

I've gotten them off with a 1/2 drive deep impact socket(the black ones) hammered on. And by the way they do make a removal tool for this if you lost the key. I think i got mine from either KD tools or OTC. But the socket will work.

You may be able to buy a few cheap (taiwan/china) or pawn shop sockets and have them welded to the offending lug nuts. Insert a extension and a breaker and you're good to go. Using a vise grip may prove difficult; I've seen many locking lug nuts with rounded shoulders to deter people from removing them with vise grips; the exterior door ***** on houses often use this same idea to deter a pipe wrench from being used to open the door.

Thats what the shop had todo for mine, cause the bum that traded it in kept the key. They hammered on a socket and took it off. Then I went and got another lock and key, b/c I like having my spare there.
