For the past week or so , I've been getting a load squealing sound from the drivers side front end. Every time I move the steering wheel or go over a bump the vehicle emits the most awful squealing sound I have heard. It doesn't amek this sound at all it I'm driving straight on a smooth surface. Anybody have any idea what the cause of this might be?
You need to post what year ranger you have and whether it's 4x4 or 4x2. I'm going to guess that it's a 98 or newer ranger, and that the noise is a bad lower balljoint. Best to replace both lower balljoints at the same time. Replaced both of my lower balljoints now I think I might hear a little bit of noise from the uppers. 2 lower balljoints installed, probably $500 +/-. Hope you have some kind of warranty on it.
If you can make the noise by bouncing the front end when it's parked, diagnosing will be easy. Have a friend bounce the front end while you take a long handled screw driver, handle end on your ear, and the other end on the balljoints. Or use a stethescope if you have one. Good luck
