8.8' Ford?

I have a 1997 F150 XLT 4X4 W/ tow package. My axle code is "19" which is a 3.55 open. It looks like an 8.8", is this correct? If so, what is the spline count, 31? What I want to do is put in a limited slip differential or a powertraxs in plae of the open diff. Anyone know what would be the best for my truck? What I would like is a good differential for regular road driving but also for driving in the mud, snow and ice that we have here in central Michigan.

I guess I'll be taking this unit apart and counting my splines and measuring it to see if the powertrax unit will work.

No need to do that, it's 31-spline. I can't say whether or not the Powertrax is good or not, but it sounds like a l/s is what you want instead of a locker or spool.

It probably is an 8.8, one way to help you tell is by Count the bolts on the differential cover, 8.8's are 10 bolt.

OK, thanks. I'll look into a limited slip also. Thanks for the info.

well, if it looks like a 8.8, thats what it is.
The 8.8 and 9.75" look nothing alike, so there is no confusing the two.

something like a lock right, EZ locker, no-slip, or quick loc will be alot easier and cheaper than putting a Limited slip.

Currie, has been around a very long time. Been to the shop many times. Purchased a couple complete 9" rear ends. Both are still performing great!
