The VIN number makes no sence according to all info I've found on Internet or books I've read.
VIN # is 17974A-6821010ZL
Tag also reads: Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited Oakville Ontario
I've gone to the http://www.mercurypickup.com/ website but still no sence made of it
51dueller
I noticed that too so I figure that it's a late production "60 because the production # is in front of the VIN #.
If you reverse them it reads:
6=Ford 6cyl
82=Panel (which it is)
10=series 100
10=110" wheelbase
Z=year '60
L=left hand drive
the only thing left is the "A" at the end of the production # ?
I forgot about Ford Canada decoding your vin and giving a build sheet. I've had them do two of my vins and they send you some free stuff too. I've got a brochure and specifications booklet.
This is what Ford Canada emailed me back
"The serial number of a truck should be 11 characters (on a '60 theirs only 9). Regrettably, the Vehicle Identification Number cannot be decoded to determine the model year.
At Ford of Canada, we consider the satisfaction of our customers as one of our most important objectives."
What a joke Thanks Alot Ford Canada for the satisfaction "A"
In the mean time I've found out the year designation for Canadian built Ford trucks.
8th digit on the VIN:
T=56
V=57
W=58
Y=59
Z=60
