As a newbie to the forum I do not know if the following question is acceptable, but here goes (If is is not I apologize). I received a solicitation from the "Warranty Corporation" of Mobile, Alabama offering me extended power train warranty at a very attractive premium, so attractive that I am somewhar suspect. As a retiree I would like to protect my truck and hopefully cover a major repair.
Despite what my wife says, I do not love the truck more than her, at least most of the time. If anyone has experience with this company I would appreciate comments.
Thank you
1999.5 F-250 Extended cab, Long box w/Banks Big Head
I have several customers that have purchased warranties either through the internet or through direct mailers. These warranties aren't all that they are cracked up to be in my opinion. I can't say I've worked with every one of them out there but the ones I have worked with are so much of a pain that our Dealership will no longer honer any warranties other that the two we sell. The majority that I've seen are difficult to deal with, difficult to get paid by when we actually do get a covered repair, and the coverage usually stinks. They never send you a list of what's covered, that would be a huge book by itself, so we have to diagnose the repair then call to see if that item is covered.
The only warranty I'd buy for my beloved F350 would be a Ford ESP plan, all the others pale in comparison.
Just another note, I see you have a Banks Big Head on your truck. The aftermarket warranties WILL void the warranty you just purchased if their independent inspector sees that during a repair visit. I had one company try to deny a repair because the guy had a gooseneck hitch in his bed. The warranty company claimed the customer was towing in excess of what they felt the truck was designed for, they said 5000 LBS max. I asked how they can say that when Ford said the tow capacity is 12,750?? Needless to say, my customer won that one.
My advice as a Master Certified Service Advisor is to stay far away from these type of companies, go with a warranty that has a good name, if not Ford, then check Consumer Reports or something like that so you can make an educated decision before you hand over a lot of money.
Thank you for your reply as retired Law Enforcement I am naturally suspicious, which is why I asked. Your reply is very helpful and I will pursue the avenues you recommended.
