Hello! New to this board, but been lurking for a bit.
We just did a gear swap in a 99 F150 2wd. 8.8". Removed the factory 3.08's for 3.73's. Truck drives nice and the tranny shifts fine, but the speedo is waaay out.
Now, we were told that the trucks have the pick up for the speedo on the dif, so nothing needs to be done to correct it. But this appears to be false. There is a plug on the top of the dif, but maybe it's ABS??
Will changing the speedo gear in the trans fix this problem? If so, which gear do we need? Please don't tell me I need a power programmer or something similar...
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The plug on the diff. is the rear ABS sensor.
The speedo is electronic and can either be changed by buying a programmer (such as a Superchips 1715) or having your local dealer reprogram it for a fee. No gears to change on these newer rides.
If I don't get the computer reflashed rightaway is it hurting anything? At first the trany shifted fine but now under part throttle it seems to shift throught the gears too quickly. It doesn't seem to hunt at all but it doesn't feel right. I baby the truck now and I'm hoping that I'm not hurting anything until I can get the computer reflashed but the money isn't there for a couple of weeks.
thanks
