Where is the PCV valve located on a 2001 4 liter Explorer? I read a few post the say it is on the back of the engine. I cannot find anything, much less get my arm back there. THere are 2 hoses that T off, right behind the engine and a bunch of wires. I imagine one of these goes to it. I can't reach where one of them goes.
Will someone give my specific instruction..... Exact location. How far down the back of the engine is it? Can I reach it from the hood? I must be a moron
On my 2001 sport trac 4.0 it is on the drivers side valve cover, on the very back next to the firewall.
it is not the usual pvc valve, it has a cam like lock that twists about 1/2 turn into the rear of the valve cover, and it has a small metallic tube around it that has engine coolant circulating through it to keep it cool, there are two smaller rubber tubes connected to this.
Its gonna be that "2 hoses that T off" part you were talking about. Its easier to remove the whole hose assembly from the truck to replace the PCV. The valve itself is in the bottom, thick hose and the top of the valve is in the plastic T joint. Good luck.
That I cant answer since I didnt have any clip on mine. I just had to muscle it out of the T joint. Is it a circlip or a vacuum hose type clip or something special?
If you havent, take off the plastic engine cover. I literally climbed up onto the engine to get at it comfortably. Of course be careful of what you support your weight on.
If your PCV is as descibed in my above post......try pulling the little thin hoses (right and left) off the horizontal of the T connector (if you have not already)....then you can more easily just reach back in their blindly and pull the T connector and the PCV out all at once.
I don't remember a clip on mine (which held it to the engine cover or firewall)...But I do remember that T connector having to be snapped off (then back on) the PCV with a lot of force. That's why it is best to take them both out as one piece...and then attach the new pcv to the T connector before putting it back in.
