I have used Line x for my last 2 pickups, never had any real problems with the product but I am being told that Rhino Liner is the way to go. Some say that Rhino is a thicker better product. Gettin new truck tomorrow and I want to have the bed sprayed asap. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you realize that they take a sander to your shiney new paint before they spray in that 1/16" layer of plastic that devalues your truck when you trade it in?????? Spray in liners are a$500 to $2000 total loss to your truck. Yes dealers will devalue your truck if you trade it in, and no of course they won't tell you that when they bid it. I have a copy of a Brand X(GM) flyer that clearly states "Applying a sprayed on bedliner is considered excess wear. My experience has been that it is usually about 1/16" thick and very un-even because it varies with the experience of the person using the spray gun.The only thing you can put in your bed that won't damage it is a Bed-Rug. it won't hold water(closed cell foam) and acids won't hurt it. Would you rather drop something heavy on 1/16" of plastic or 1" of dense foam????? if you are throwing things into your bed you really probably don't care too much about it any way so don't waste your money! I have never seen the reasoning of "protecting" your bed by sanding the paint off of it. You wouldn't take a sander to the outside of the body would you? If you ever had a rust problem in the bed how could Ford ever warranty it? I wouldn't let anyone sand the paint off of my new truck! Don't do it!!!!
Just a different point of view here for wscott10. I've only had Line-X - have it on my FX4. Glad I got it done. Looks great. I'd take it over a drop in shell any day. Not sure about the foam pad FordZillaI8Gm mentioned. I imagine it just covers/protects the bottom of the bed and not the sides.
You'll get a bunch of different opinions I bet! But I'm happy with Line-X.
I did a comparison before getting the Line-X. Line-X is the better of the two products. Line-X has a much better warrenty, any Line-X dealer in the country can repair your liner but woith Rhino they want you to go back to the dealer that put it in. But the quality does depend on the operator running the spray gun. Once again Line-X sends thier operators to a class in Atlanta I beleive for a few weeks and Rhino does not. I have had mine since I picked up the truck in November and have put numerous things in and I have had both drop in and the rug/mat. The Line-X has done the job much better. With the mat/rug I had lots of dents and scratched paint on the sides of the bed but it was $50. I got my Line-X for $320 and they gave me a $20 check for each person I sent to them so the price was great. The delaer wanted $550 and uses the same Line-x dealer I went to. SO skip the dealer and just find out where they get it done and go yourself.
I have talk to quite a few truck "experts" so they say. And for my area this is what they say.
Go with the BedRug if you are going to use a lid or topper. Go with the Line-X if you plan to keep the bed open to the weather. The later is the route I am going and here's why.
Throughout south east Texas we have a lot of leaves, pine straw, and very heavy rains. It does take a while for the water to drain out of the BedRug, and a whole day or more of sunshine for it to dry out. The pine straw, leaves, etc. can get a little messy. Also, with the rain and mud, it does get worked in between the foam pad and your truck paint!
I dissagree with the comment that a spray in liner deducts from the value. Usually it adds to it, maybe a $100 to $200.
Remember, that Titan has the spray in liner as standard on several models. I think you will find this to be common on all of them within about 4 years.
Both are good spray in liners.. To me, what it comes down to is this:
Line-X : durable, doesn't color fade as bad as Rhino, and it's easy to slide cargo in as it doesn't "grip" like Rhino..
Rhino: durable, fades pretty quickly in the sun (Black looks gray in a few years here in Southern CA.), grips well (ie: full 5 gallon buckets don't slide around & dogs keep their grip better), harder to slide in or out the bottom (touching) layer of cargo..
I looked at all of the sprayed-in products and opted for the BedRug liner. It looks great and stuff doesn't slide around like on the sprayed-in or drop-in types. I've also got the Undercover Lid so the bed only has to deal with whatever I put in it, and not the elements. The BedRug covers the sides and the Tailgate completely and I use my pressure washer to clean it out. Even after hauling tree limbs, stumps, and grass clippings, it cleans up like new with no problems.

Hey, FordRuss. I must have the stick version of the Line-X. Nothing slides around my bed. I bought a weight set and could barely get it out of the bed since the cardboard was gripping the liner!
I had this idea a while ago and never bothered to try it because I've been leasing. But now I've decided to buy my truck and will hopefully pick it up here in the next 3-4 weeks.
I've always liked the drop-in bed liners mainly because I can get stuff to slide in and out very easily. I don't worry about it moving when I drive because I secure everything with straps to the tie downs in the bed.
The main problem with drop-ins is that they rub on the paint and eventually cause rust underneath.
I've looked at the Spray-on liners and I like the concept and the fact that they prevent rust, but I hate that the material is too "sticky" and things don't slide in and out of the bed as easily. It's also tough to shovel dirt out of it.
My thought was to get a thin layer of the spray-on bedliner to pretect the bed and then drop in a plastic liner on top. That way I get the best of both worlds.
Am I an idiot or does this sounds like an alright idea?
i have a better idea for you. Go to your local Autozone (any parts store) and but the Herculese DoIt Yourself kit. It's very inexpensive and it kind of gives you the best of both worlds. Remember though ..... it's neither as good as a drop in or spray in.
I put the Rhino Spray in on my 04 Lariat SCAB - it was a freebie for me since the day I picked up my truck, the bed was full of snow and the geniuses at the dealership used a metal shovel to empty the bed. The dealer offered to repaint the bed so I asked for the liner and they sent me to the local accessories shop for the liner of my choice.
I wanted it since I prefer the non-slip texture - nothing slides around in the bed now, even when it is wet.
Note to dealer - buy a plastic snow shovel, probably cheaper than bedliners.
During lunch I took my toolbox out to the parking lot & did a slide test on both a line-x and rhino liner. The box slid a lot easier on the linex than the rhino, but it's probably not as heavy as your weights... Everything is relative.
On my third truck. First one had a dropin liner, was OK but the little hump in the middle from folding during shipping never went away. Second truck decided to try a spray in, Full Metal Jacket. Loved it. Non skid is awesome, very nice on those drizzly nights loading the YZs. 04 F150 went with the spray again. I dont think I will ever go back to a drop in.
I have both sitting in my driveway. A '75 Bronco with the tub sprayed with Rhino and an '03 Ranger with Line-X. IMO Line-X is the better product. It is much more durable than the rhino. I also noticed that in the summer the rhino would get "soft" and would gouge easily.
Your best bet would be to get a sample of each and make your own decision
