Did Ford make 1997 1-Ton Dually 4x4 ?

I was hoping to purchase a 1997 1-ton dually with a 4x4. Did Ford make one in 1997? If not, when did they start to offer them first?

I think the SuperDuties were the first Ford dually's to ever be offered in 4x4 pickup truck form. I think you could get cab-only dually 4x4's prior to that, but none with a bed. I could be wrong though, but I know I've never seen a pre-99 dually 4x4 with a bed.

No they did not make a 4x4 pickup dually, however what you would have to do to get one prior to 1999. Is that you would have to buy a cab and chassis super duty 4x4 which only came in dual rear wheels. These were for work trucks and usually you would only see them in 2 wheel drive. I know someone who ordered one and then put a pickup bed on it. So it was either a 96 or 97 and it had a 460 eng, 4x4 solid front anxle and was a dually. Acually he just recently sold it when he bought a 2000 super duty of the same set up except with a diesel eng. So good luck and you should just buy a new one its worth the $. You can order one exactlly like you want it for $500 to $1,000 over invoice, I've heard of people getting them for as little as $300 over. C-ya RS

Well blue 00, All of these pre 99 4X4's you see are you sure they are dual rear wheels. Of course they made them in single rear wheel.

Did Ford make 1997 1-Ton Dually 4x4 ?

I have seen at least two F-350 4x4 crew cab dualies with the PSD in the 1992-1997 body style. I also once saw on a dealer lot, a brand new F-350 Crew Cab dually 4x4 PSD chassis cab that was probably a 1996 or a 1997 model. Also, around town from time to time, there are two guys who have F-350 4x4s with the 6.9L diesel in the bodystyle that I believe was made from 1979-1986. One truck is an extended cab, the other is a crew cab.

LAST EDITED ON 23-Aug-00 AT 07:40 PM (EST)[p]I have seen numerous Dualies prior to 99. I have seen some as old as 80-86 body style. Factory 4x4 and factory bed. One in particular I know of is a 86 F-350 4x4 Dualie with the fiberglass fenders on the bed. It was an Extended cab, had a 460, and a 4 speed. They are out there.

I made a mistake. (It happens from time to time) The 1ton dualie that I was thinking about was a standard cab, not an Extended. I do not believe Ford made ANY F-350's in the Extended cab model until the new style (99-00). 350's were stand or 4 door, 250's could be stand., ext., or 4 door, and the same with the 150's. At least this is what I have seen.

Sorry for the mix-up.

You can call me grave digger, since This thread was dead and buried long ago haha

but now I’m looking for this information. And haven’t found a straight answer.

1979. First year of F350 4x4 Pickup SRW only
1980 first year of F350 Dually pickup 4x2 only

when was the first dually 4x4 pickup?

many of us have seen them in 80-97 body trucks. We know they exist. Some of them are obviously modified from a 2WD, but when did Ford start doing it?

Footnote, this thread should be moved out of the super duty forum.

According to this article, Chevrolet in 1973, then Ford in 1980, dodge shortly after.

Edit. Sorry… missed the 4x4 part…

80-97 some dealers had the 2wd's converted, but 99 with a pickup bed, not including cab and chassis, thats a different animal.

it is very easy to have a 4X4 dually pickup.
start with a SRW 4X4 pickup.
swap a set of dually adaptors on the D-60 front axle.
then swap in a SWR 4X4 dually pickup rear.
i built quite a few of them for customers back in the 80's and 90's

Gentlemen: This 1997 Heavy Duty/Super Duty sales catalog will help. I copied a couple of pages and there is no doubt Ford made 4wd dually pickups. Larry
