I bought a used Raven fiberglass canopy/shell for my '95 F150 and had it color matched to my truck. Looks great, but instead of having a window in the front, it has a rubber seal that mates to my cab's back window.
Works fine, but it really squeaks, especially when cold. I've also heard it can rub the paint off the back of the cab in dusty environment - like the desert I live in.
I tried spraying silicon into a rag, then rubbing it on the rubber, but silicon doesn't last long. Any other ideas?
I suppose, I could always have a window mounted, but I'd rather save the $150, and not have another window to look through to back up!
Unfortunately, not much you can do. That's why you don't see a lot of the rubber compression boots around anymore. I have a Leer and I use an inflatable plastic boot between the windows, and it sucks too. Not to mention, it also squeeks and leaks air. I'm almost considering having a compression boot installed in place of the window, but not sure I can stand squeeking. You could install a window in place, but not sure how well you'll like that. I hate trying to see back when I take the boot out. Especially when it's dusty, and then it rains. Like I said, the boot I have helps, but it still makes a little noise, and makes it nearly inpossible to open up the rear window, because it works its way up and rubs on the window. Your choice though... Good luck
