Hi all, I have a 69 9 inch rear in my 34 Ford pickup. It is still being built up, but I have a question. The tag says 3L25 so it is a 3.25 traction loc differential. When I push the frame around and turn the the front wheels to position it, the rear wheels scrub and jerk like something in the rear end is sticking. I know these rears do not act the same as an open rear, but is this normal for a posi. Since it is a bare frame and axel at this time it would be easier to take it apart now. Thanks for the help. Al K.
With no weight on the rear axle it may very well do what you have described. Since you have a trac loc the wheels are turning at the same rate when you are turning the truck so one wheel skip to try and keep up with the other.
Another thing question is has the trac loc been rebuilt lately? If so this can create the above conditions but this only means you have a good tight clutch pack.
I would drive the truck with weight in it and add some friction modifier to the gear oil. This helps reduce clutch chatter.
