Can anyone decipher this BOM? 603289-5, with the ford number of D1TA-HC. I went to Dana's website and tried to look it up, but they only go back to 1979, I think my axle is between 1971 and 1979. Its a high pinion D44 open knuckle front on a 1971 Ford F-100. I think someone put it in, I dont think its stock. Any help would be greatly apreciated!!

If it is open knuckle, then it should be a 76 or newer. Since you have chevy outers, it is hard to say, but if it had discs, it should be these years. If, near the radius arm brackets, there is a sleeve looking thing, it is a 78-79, but if it looks like a regular single tube axle with radius arm brackets instead of leaf perches, it should be a 76-77 axle. As far as the numbers, sorry I can't be of help, but hope the other info I gave will assist you. Ted
Thanks Ted, Any Info. is more than I had. I will look for the things you mentioned. It had drum brakes, the ford disk brake spindles would not fit, that why it has the chevy disks. It does have open knuckles and high pinion.

wrong. for 1/2 ton and EB, open knuckles started in 1966. for 3/4 ton on up open knuckle started in 1976 along with disc brakes.
You have a run of the mill D-44 for a 1971 F-100 with optional 4:09 gears. It is stock. with drums and high pinion. Tell us if it has kingpins or balljoints please.
Whoops! I got my trucks mixed. The 8 lug thing goofed me. They are the 76 and newer. Eric, for everyones info, where did you get the 4.09 gear thing? I didn't know how to decifer the codes he gave. Most trucks came with a tag that had the ratio such as 4 09 or, if a limited slip, 4l09, but the stuff he gave wasn't anything like that. Do you know of a website, or something? Thanks, Ted
Nope, the BOM#, I have the Spice book you are refering to, It tells the ratio and if it is a power-lok or detroit based on the '-5' at the end of the BOM.
If he has the D1TA-HC then he has the tag under the diff bolts. this will have the ratio like you talked about teds74ford.
