Diagnostic code 18
Hey guys, I need some help deciphering a diagnostic code from my 86 Bronco. I've got a code 18 in the continuous memory - for grounded spout or IDM circuit failure. Can anyone tell me what to check next? I recently replaced the engine, and checked and rewrapped the wiring harness at that time. I don't think anything is grounding. Any thoughts?

Check a wiring diagram for the engine wiring to find the IDM and SPOUT output pin locations on the computer and then check continuity to the other end. Resistance should be low, and also check for a very high resistance between those wires and a ground. If it is shorting to a ground, it would show up when you check these things (hopefully).

OK!
Well, I checked diagrams in the book and found a whole section for checking the TFI - this circuit goes from the TFI module to the negative side of the coil and then to pin 4 of the 60 pin connector. I need to pull out the voltmeter to check the resistances - it shows a large resistor (22k ohms) on the way back to pin four. I'll update when I run the tests.
I was thinking there should be a tech section/forum dedicated to problem codes. I know the search will usually find answers, but I think a forum dedicated to "codebusting" would be really helpful.
