Battery light on/off...

I have a bronco and nobody was able to answer my ??

I replaced a broken bulb in my cluster and found it to be the battery light.

Since replacing it, the light will come on shortly after start-up, and will stay lit most of my drive to work/home. Every so often it will shut off. The cluster volt meter is never fluctuates. My battery is fairly new. Alternator age is not known. I've never had a problem with power.

I'm going to check my alt. this week just to be sure. Could the alt. cause this problem, without showing lack of charging power?

Thanks for any help...

Jim

Yes it could, if your gauge is not working properly.

Get a voltmeter and test your battery with the vehicle off. It should read around 12-12.5 volts. Now start up your Bronco and check again. With the engine running about 800 Rpm, it should read between say 13.5 and 14.5

Go from there. Good luck.

sometimes it might trigger the light when the amps are right on the edge of the range
