1997 f-150 transmission problems?
I recently bought a 97' F-150 4x4 extended cab (off road) with the 4.6L motor auto transmission and 3:55 rear end (tow pkg).
It has had a couple of problems since I bought it,the used car dealer is trying to get corrected.
First it has 74,000 miles on it.
Twice since I've had it it starts shaking about 40mph (1500rpm),
and then it breifly feels like Iam driving over a "Wash board"!
It only lasts a few seconds though?
About 80% of the time its fine, but other times at the same speed and rpm zone it starts feeling like it is changing speed? It almost feels like surging, but feels like its in the transmission possibly?
Then its fine for awhile,it seems random, but usually about 40mph (1500rpms).
It almost feels like it thinks its supposed to shift, but doesn't?
Other times when slowing down,I feel a definite downshift similar to downshifting a std trans?
Any ideas??Very strange. The motor runs great, and has had a complete tune-up too.New fuel filter also.
The old owner claims it was like that the whole time he owned it?He said the dealers said that was normal??Doesn't sound right to me?Thanks
