It is very nice there year-round.
Tons of construction near Penticton,Kelowna ,Vernon.
Lots to do , Lots of eye candy,Lot of work,Lot of Unions.Lots of strikes.
The good outweighs the bad 10-fold
IMO,You would really enjoy it more than Ontario.
For the things you just asked about, I posted some links that the answers to your questions are in...
Mil1ion, you forgot Kamloops. The tournament capital of BC.
Anyways, almost all of the BC interior is booming. Yeah, there were fires, but carpenters are needed to rebuild. If I were going to move to the interior, I'd check out Kamloops first, then Kelowna, then Vernon. All within 2 1/2 hours of each other, and no more than 4 hours from Vancouver.
Mil1ion

KT it is law that every full time and most part time employees get at least 2 weeks paid vacation a year. Whether you take it or not is up to you usually.
This is what the labour law says......
"An employee is entitled to two weeks of annual vacation after 12 consecutive months of employment.
After five consecutive years of employment an employee becomes entitled to three weeks of annual vacation."
You start out getting 4% of your gross pay as holiday pay and it goes up from there. I'm in a union so it's a bit different for me but I get a month paid vacation or 10.5% of my gross pay. I've got another 3 years and I go up to 12.5%.
Bigrigfixer are you sure you'd want to live in the Okanagan? I mean it has so many bad things there like it's sunny and hot there most of the time, all those women walking around in next to nothing, all the big lakes etc.
Man I'd hate all that
Oh hey...something else about here....no taxes on lottery winnings
As if that is really a concern
I looked into moving to Canada a few years ago; (my wife is Canadian). The immigration policy is loosely similar to here in the states; however, there are a few key differences. One major difference is that you can gain residence with a big bank account, (at the time, I think it was $175,000. Don't remember if that was US or CDN). Another way is to be in the artistic field somehow, (performing or fine, don't think it matters. As long as someone’s established.) Depending on where you go in Canada, it might even be easier. I know of a family that moved there years ago, (from Scotland), and they have lived there for 20+ years without a problem - one of the sons told me that they ALWAYS pay their taxes.
