OK i just wanna know how much HP do you lose on a rwd cars from engine to wheels and how much HP lose is it on a fwd car from engine to wheels. Can anyone help me thanks. :7
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-May-02 AT 08:28 PM (EST)]I've heard with the C-6 you will lose as much as 40hp?!?!?! Ya'll please tell me this isn't true!
Thanks for the info on the rwd cars. I need to just find out front wheel know since i have a honda prelude and the little 4 banger in it is rated at 135hp I hope it does not differ that much to wheels. but thanks for other info
when you look at it like that the FWD looks much more efficient, lack of a driveshaft and other common RWD components lessens the parasitic loss through the drivetrain. but, you have to take into account how much power you're actually getting to the ground. Theoretically, the FWD is superior on paper too, except for the major variable- weight transfer. when you accelerate, the weight shifts to the rear, planting the rear tires. this same thing happens on FWD cars, taking weight off of the drive wheels. This is why RWD cars are preferable to FWD in drag racing. This also plays into the reason why I think hondas and other comparable cars are stupid with rear spoilers. the downforce created is just multiplying the loss due to weight transfer.

But you are forgetting that those spoilers add at least 25hp second only to the 35hp added by the Type R sticker or the powered by .. stickers. THey are totally leet!!!
I have spent to much time around my brother's friends and their ricers
My honda is not a ricer I got it to save some money on gas. Thats all the only thing i put in it was a K&N filter new plugs and wires. I am not nor will I ever become RICE. I would rather be hit by my own truck then to be called RICE.
Sorry I got jumpie I do that when i ask a question about my honda and I get a ricer Joke. I have already heard about ever ricer joke from my Automotive teacher. Not only does he make fun of my honda but He makes fun of my FORD. He is a mopar man who needs to be kicked in the butt.
Front wheel drive looses 12 to 15 percent,
Rear wheel drive looses a little more, 17 to 20
percent, but it depends on what type of
trans/rear end you have for the RWD vehicles,
the 9" ford rear end takes about 9 more HP
to run than a Chebby 12 bolt, mainly because
of the pinion location (Much lower in the 9"),
more teeth in contact with the ring gear means
it's a stronger rear end, but it uses more HP
to get it to turn than the 12 bolt...
Just a little asides on the Ricers, most of the
drag racers are using wheelie bars on their FWDs,
now you probably think thats a little silly, right?
Well, it isn't, the rules state that the wheelie
bars must have 1/2" clearance from the ground, now
when you think about this, you'll come up with the
same thoughts I did, soft springs/shocks front and
rear, when you "leave" the starting line, your front
end jumps up, right? the rear end squats, right?
Where are the wheelie bars now?? They're on the ground,
loading the front tires, because the leverage is forcing
the front tires onto the track, they have better traction
allowing them to run in the 8's and lower...
