10k guru's how about this?

I like the idea of using the diodes in series with a resistor, but due to the potential damage done to the ICP, I am going to hold off on this. What I was thinking, and this may not work or be safe, is what if we were to to tap into the wire from the accelerator pedal that is 0-5 volts and use a few diodes in this tapped wire in series with a relay to ground. When the go pedal is pushed to a certain level and the voltage overcomes the diodes, the relay will close and turn on whatever resistor you may have in place of the 10k or 10k itself. Would the diodes in series with the relay coil cause too much current to flow through the pedal circuit and burn anything up? Its been a while since my electronics classes. I know there is a new version of the clamp circuit on ford-trucks forum but I am not sure if I like it. If somebody can copy/paste my thoughts over to ford-trucks forum and see what they think go right ahead.

Hey Boss, Got my 10K hooked up thru the accelerator, was easy to do. Go to radio shack, buy you a auto relay, part number 275-226. Mount it somewhere under dash, I mounted mine behind access panel under steering wheel. There are 2 wires that go to a switch on the accel. One wire has 12 volts on it all the time, you need to cut into the other wire so when the pedal is pressed the switch is made which sends that 12 volts thru the switch to your coil on your radio shack relay. Your relay has two terminals for your coil, #86 which is the 12 volts feeding it and #85 which is hooked to a ground. When 12 volts is sent to #86 it energizes the coil or draws the coil in. On the other side of that relay you have your 10K circuit hooked to each side of the terminals #30/51 and #87 which is hooked to your ICP. So basically when the pedal is pressed it draws in the coil on the relay which completes the 10K circuit and when your release the pedal the coil drops out, 10K circuit is then opened an you never have that rough idle that goes along with the 10K mod. I hope I explained it all-right, it is easier to install then to explain. If you have any more questions just drop me an email and I will try to explain it better. I have pics of the install but have not posted them on here yet. Later.

Follow Cuttr's recommendation if you want to use a relay. If you hook the relay coil up to the signal from the potentiometer on the pedal, you will really screw things up. I don't know what value the pot is, but when you are at part thorttle, you would have the relay coil in parallel with the pot, giving you a lower voltage. You probably wouldn't be able to get the engine to rev much at all until you got to the very last bit of the pedal, and then it would probably rev very quickly.

I have thought about using the IVS but does your truck have a touchy pedal at slow speeds like when you have the 10k hooked up without any type of switch?

I have the 10k mod with relay controlled by the IVS and it does have a touchy pedal. It tends to surge when I am driving down a rough road at a very slow speed. I have a toggle switch between the IVS wire and the relay coil to turn it off when necessary. Other than this occasional surge, I am pleased with the addition of the relay.
