Have been holding off purchasing MIG welder because currently limited to 110v in work area. Hope to build shop down the road but not as soon as would like. In meantime, wonder if 5000 watt generator would provide enough amps to power a larger, perhaps 240v MIG unit. The generator is rated 240v @ 20.8 amps, where it appears the MIG units is at max. If limited work to sheet metal, does anyone have opinion whether or not i could use the generator to power the MIG.
Just seems the larger MIG unit would provide more options. Majority of time would be using on body, but may on occasion need for frame. Do not want to go thru another upgrade thing.
I have a 200 amp Hobart that would draw.....40? amps at full output. But I am only putting out 100 amps with .035 wire and CO2. It draws 17 amps from the 220 line at this setting. I have a 5000 watt Onan that will run it. You should be good to go.
