The truck is a cab off restored '73 F250 2wd Camper Special.
It has a C6 and a stock 460 4V from a '74 Mercury.
It has a thirsty/leaky Motorcraft on it now.
I'm ready and hopeing to buy a cure. I have access to a rebuilt w/warranty Autolite 4100 for $220. Or can go with a new Edelbrock.
I use the truck for heavy towing (4 horse trailer).
I prefer to use the same linkages and stock airfilter, manifold and electric choke.
Is the 4100 from a 390 Thunderbird and the Edelbrock a bolt on turnkey project? If not, what extras will I need?
Your advice, comments and observations please.
The Edelbrock can he had with either a manual or electric choke. There is a bolt on linkage kit for Ford automatic trannys available for the Edelbrock too.
I use an Edelbrock 750 on my 460 and it runs great!!
I had the catalog out and my credit card.
I was in the process of ordering my #1411 Edelbrock 750 w/electric choke. In addition the EDL-1483, kickdown linkage and EDL-1495 additional linkage.
Out of the blue the saleman mentions this carb is for squarebore manifolds.
Hmmm, thinking back to this forum I remembered that the Motorcraft 4300 that came on this '74 Mercury 460 w/egr was a spreadbore.
Now mind you that this '74 won't need a California smog so the EGR can go away, but the stock manifold stays. There was much discussion about squarebore carbs not working on spreadbore manifolds. That is, unless a 50-60 dollar spacer from Summit is used?
We're so close here and I've been paying attention.
If you want the correct carb, you can get an Eddy AVS spreadbore, Summit #EDL-1812. It's 800cfm, and about $375. Or there is the Holley spreadbore for about $70 less, p/n HLY-0-80555c, but that's only 650cfm.
I did some digging, and Mr. Gasket has the adapter you need, for $16. It's part number 1932.
