Depends on the windshield company. I had mine replaced last summer due to a chip that was developing into a crack. I brought it to a place that my insurance company had on its list of "approved" contractors. I was pleasantly surprised because I knew the place and it has a good reputation. They did an excellent, professional job, and they wacked the insurance company pretty good for it, too ($375). I think I could have gotten it done for about $275 or so at other shops in my area, but since I didn't have to pay, I had no need to go price shopping.
Took a 98 ranger to a glass replacement place (Glassmasters)and they put a new windsheld in for $122.00 including tax (no insurance). they advertise that they will put your windsheld in and pay your deductiable.. good deal.

I put one in each of my '98's when I bought them because they came cracked. $225 both times from a local glass guy that does the work for a body shop I've used and trust. He came to my house and did it right there in the driveway.
The guy backs up his work, and it was good enough for me. I'm not big on paying warrantees, as the previous owner of my truck got screwed by Safelite. He brought it back, a few months after having it replaced, with a crack and they said it was a stone chip and denied the warranty. Not much you can do about it, so I'd rather save the money for the next windshield.
