hey guys...i have a question.....is there any danger in removing my front and rear sway bars? for example turning....is there any danger in saftey withthat or anything else? what are the advantages of removing it for everyday street driving and disadvantages?
thanks
thanks....but i want to know more about the affects on turning thats what im worried about....i off road prob 20 % of the tim ebut still drive to school etc...
On the street is where your sway bars are working for you, eliminating alot of body roll on turns.
The sway bars limit your suspension travel when you are off road, so they arent good off road. They make sway bar disconnects for Jeeps to use when you go off-road, you might want to check around to see if they make them for these larger vehicles.
I personally like to go fast enough around corners that I appreciate my sway bars. I've driven vehicles with no or poor sway bars and do not like the dangerous sway that shifts alot of weight onto the outside tire on a hard corner. I'd leave them on IMO.
I just did a 9" swap on my 88 and had to remove the rear swaybar because the ubolt and sway bar didnt match up to well. I have notice some body roll while driving around town and on windy roads. I will be towing this summer so I am gonna need to put the swaybar back on for sure. I say leave them on if you only wheel 20% of the time.
I removed both sway bars after getting my 6" suspension lift. I have less body roll than before, but I also have polyurethane body mounts. THese took alot of the roll out before the lift was even on. If you are going to remove them take off both sway bars. I wouldn't run with only one on, especially the front. You may get to experience oversteer or the Bronco wanting to keep going straight when you try to turn.
If you don't have a susp. lift I would keep both of them on, just so you can corner a tad faster. I still would not corner too fast in a Bronco!!!
the front one isnt causing any abnormal ride so far. I drove 200 miles like that and didnt have a problem. but i will get the rear back on just trying to find a rear sway bar from an 80 bronco that had a 9" rearend.
Removing the sway bars was the first thing I did to my truck. Now its running 4" of lift with a wristed radius arm and superflex coils. Don't do any high speed cornering and you'll be fine.
KemicalBurns, I may have the rear one from my 84 Bronco. It has the Ford 9" rear axle. I think it has new poly bushings, too. Let me look and I'll post back manana...
