I know i could go pull mine count the teeth and use all the formulas, but if someones that already knows the answer would be so kind as to share it with me then i'd omly have to pull mine one time Thanx! DW
I am soooo disapointed that none of my Bronco heros could answer this question for me. I so heart broken i just dont know if i'll be able to go on. :-staun DW
I asked this question before about my 1990 - the best answer that I got was to go to the dealer and tell them how many MPH you are off and they can suggest the best gears. I think that you need to replace more than one gear, but maybe not on a C6.
If you are not sure how many mph you are off, the best way is to use a GPS to see how fast you are really going, or to have someone in a car with a speedo that you trust pace you.
Don't fret too much. I've been real bussy this past week getting my rig up and running, with new ARB and 4.56 gears for my rear-end.
What is your rpm range at 75 mph, with your current setup. If it's around 2500, it seems to be about right. I think with your gears and that size tire you may not need to recalibrate the speedo. I know that I may have some info somewhere, I just have to find it. One thing you could do is ask the parts person at local Ford dealer, they should have the info(been there, done that myself). Local 4by shop should also have the info, too.
I thought I might have to do the same thing with my new gear change in the rear, but my rpm range seems to be identical to the 4.10 gears that I had previousley. And I have 33x12.5 tires. Last night I finnally went out for a test drive, with new 4.56 gears and new ARB installed, at 75mph my rpms were at 2500. Now I have to swap gears in the front.
I'll try to find more info, if I can find, I'll post it.
Hope this helps for now
hey, i just recalibrated my speedometer for approximately 25 cents and two minutes worth of effort. but i hear this only works for the 92-96 models...so if you've got one of those, i'll tell you the cheap and ridiculously easy way.
hey inlovewithgreta, I have a 95 and wanted to know the way to recalibrate my speedo, I got some directions, but its like translating laton, any help would be cool
the info on the link will show you how to do it. here's the easy-to-follow-method for the parts they don't explain too well:
- get about 10 feet of wire, either with alligator clips on the end of it, or you can just strip them bare.
- look below your glove compartment. there's a little plug there that has PSOM written on it. a blue and yellow wire leads to it.
- insert one end of the wire into the clip (i used the back of it, since the metal connector was easier to get to there) and ground the other side to any vehicle ground (i used the negative pole of the battery).
- push in the "reset" button and hold it in on your dash.
- turn the key to run. needle will peg out and return.
- your odometer should say something like "E 08 6" - that's what mine said. the only thing you care about is the last number. if it's anything other than zero, you can follow the rest of the guidelines in that link above. it's basically pushing buttons. by the way, for 31 inch tires, you'll need to calibrate it at 9.16.
however, i do have a question for anyone else out there that might know...
i found that by pushing Select after the above steps, the odometer read 111111.1. push it again and they change to 2's...what's up with that?
