cracked frame

I woke up this morning thinking about my fame and all the different pressures applied to it via the steering gear box. I was imagining off roading and the truck being on an angle and then one wheel having to crawl over a rock. There's certainly a lot of forces at work in a system like that. I got to thinking that maybe a steering damper would help take some of the pressure off the gear box. IS this accurate and would it really help prevent future cracks in the frame?
