4.10 gears

Okay,

Whats the deal? Am I the only person on here that has an Excursion 6.8L 4x4 XLT with the 4.10 gears?

Is this some kind of mishap on my part?

So how many of you other X owners have the 4.10 gears?

Thanks

Big Mick

Sure didn't come from the factory! How do you know you have 4.10 with a V10?

When you are ready to sell, let me know.

I assumed mine was also a 4.10 and I have the V10

The diff tag reads as follows:

S 410 A
73 10 5 9L05

After posting my response I did a little searching and found that we have the 3.73. The first digits on the bottom numbers indicate ratio.

Okay, I'm lost

Heres what my door tag says...

137
4
42
K
E
CG
NOA
UTC
OL118
13
YZ

From this I gather that my Axle code is "CG" but what does it mean?

Chaeck the tag on your axle. Top right of the differential attached with one of the cover bolts.

I bet you got's a 3.73 or 4.3. No 4.10's from the factory for the V10.

The number denotes the rear end gear ratio.

3.73:1 and 4.10:1

The first number (before the : ) is the amount of turns the drive shaft turns to ONE turn of the rear wheel.

The lower the number the steeper the gearing.

4.10:1 will make your engine turn at a higher RPM for any given speed versus the 3.73:1.

Steeper gearing can allows you to tow larger loads without undue strain to the engine and tranny (versus 3.73) and are generally stronger due to less teeth in the ring gear for the same ring gears of the same diameter. In this case, 10.5".

The tag on my axle is as follows...

3 S 410 B
.73 10 2 0A19

Now I assume this means I've got 3.73 gears. what do all the other numbers mean?
