I have a 78 F150 351M C6 with full time 4x4 (converted to part time). I want to swap the 351M for a small block engine which means I need another C6 with the small block bolt pattern that will also bolt to my full time transfer case.
My questions:
Will any year small block C6 4x4 transmission bolt to the existing full time case?
Will a newer C6 tranny and transfer case, say from a mid-late 80's truck, bolt to the drive shafts?
It's my understand that all the transfer cases share the same mounting pattern. People install 205 cases on the back of the ZF trans.
I am not sure about the drive shafts bolting up from late to early.
I say just get a small block C-6 trans from a 4X4 and mount your case on it. Now I am not sure if the small block motor sits any further forward or back than the 351M. I would guess the trans ends up clode to the same position or there would be different cross members.
I may have an extra small block C-6 soon. I just have to go get the truck and I haven't even looked at it yet.
