Looking for ideas
just looking for some advice. My girlfriend has an F-150 '02 reg cab, triton XLT. Last night, she claimed it was running sluggishly. I checked it out for a minute or two, and the only thing that seems awkward was the main belt driven fan kept speeding up and slowing down. I have never heard a triton v-8 idle, but it sounded to be idling fine. There were no check engine lights going on. Idle did not seem to be going up or down. I would think fan clutch, but dont know if this truck even has one. She also thinks her alternator is going out, all though there is no dimming of the lights. Any advice where to start looking? Thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome to the forum 
The fan speeding up and slowing down at an idle is normal.
I would probably try cleaning tha MAF to see if that helps. For directions, look in the FAQ thread at the top of this forum. It is pretty simple to do.
