Plug Wires Run Amuck

Is it me being stupid (not the first time) or should my plug wires show continuity?

Then I checked them on the ohm setting, some as low as 2kohm, one as high as 30kohm.

Aren't plug wires just supposed to transfer the voltage from the coil down a highly shielded cable to the plug? And if so, shouldn't I get "O.L" or "0.00" when I check ohms? Or if I continuity check (diode check) I should get the tone? I do when I touch the leads together.....

Plug wires should be about 7000 Ohms per foot. 1Ft=7000 Ohms
2Ft=14000 Ohms and so on.

They should show continuity with some resistance. If they don't, they are bad. What brand are they?

Your plug wires will not show up on the conitunity function of a multimeter. The resistance is too high. If they are showing above 7000 ohms of resistance its a problem. If they are below you are fine. Chilton says that a good wire will give you between 4000 and 6000 ohms of resistance, but I've heard from other sources that up to 10000 is ok. I have a set of ford racing 9mm wires that give me about 2500 - 3000 ohms resistance per ft. Anyway, the point is that less resistance is better yet no resistance is bad.

OEM Replacements from the parts store. The tower boots say PPE on them, and the wires are 8mm Silicon Suppression. They are just like the factory wires with the extra lip around the plug boot to seal the hole in the head....

The resistance is what keeps noise out of the stereo and electronics. If they were solid core wires, there would be too much interference in the electronics of the truck.
