Does anyone know if there should be vacuum at idle on an 86 460? You are supposed to check before you remove the original carb, but mine was shooting gas everywhere and wasn't safe to crank back up. I replaced the holley with an edelbrock and don't know which port to hook the distributor to. I have bypassed the thermosistor valce, it doesn't work. Distributor is hooked straight to the carb I think it is on the timed port right now.
You should have about 20+" intake vacuum at idle (with all vacuum lines plugged.) Distributer advance vacuum hooked to upper port (timed) on carb is fine but not during the vacuum test.
According to the directions that came with the edelbrock, I should unhook the distributor and see if there was vacuum at idle on the factory Holley. I couldn't check this because of the fire hazard ( gas everywhere) My new carb thas two ports, one has vacuum at idle and the other does not, I need to know which port to use, this info not in any of the books that I have on this truck
thanks!
I have an `85 460. I don’t know for sure how Ford had it connected because they had everything running through all the various thermo switches and such.
I have removed all emission devices and hooked my vacuum advance to ported vacuum - passenger side on the Edlebrock. It works very well.
