I would like to hear from anybody who may have a similar problem to what I have experienced intermittently. The odd time I have parked on the driveway I have had to jump back in and put on the brakes as the truck started rolling backwards. My dealer has heard of this with the manual transfer cases but not the electronic shift type, so they didn't do anything except leave the battery disconnected to clear some computer code. ( I knew the electronic shift on the fly was a mistake after I bought it) Another intermittent problem is the truck won't engage into reverse until I fiddle with the shifter. Any ideas?
You left out a key piece of info. Is your tranny an automatic or manual.. I've monitored this board, www.f150-online, edmunds.com, and www.ford-diesel.com for over a year now on the SuperDuty trucks. I've not heard of this 'coasting back' issue you bring up. Oh well, I learn something every day..
On the issue of shifting into reverse: I myself have this and I have heard of many others who've experienced this with the manual tranny. One trick is if you shift into first shift into 1st or 2nd and then go to reverse.. Works every time for me..
If you have an automatic tranny, then again, I've not ever heard of problems shifting into reverse..
In the mean time.. maybe you should activate the emergency brake when your parking..
Yeah I guess I wasn't too clear. It is an automatic but I am not sure if it has anything to do with the tranny. I have had problems engaging into 4 low. It seems to pop in and out several times before it kicks in. When it does finally engage it is very jerky when accelerating. It was never that way in my previous truck in 4 low. I have also had problems getting 4 low to disengage. I know the manual shift transfer cases were doing exactly what my electronic shift is doing, which is going into neutral. I don't know if there is that big a difference between a manual and electronic shift type but Ford was replacing manual shift transfer cases for that problem.
