I am thinking of installing a bank's git kit on my truck.I was talking to the banks rep on the phone and he said I should use a K/n filter in my stock air box. I asked about the AIS and he said he was not familier with it. My question is, is the AIS alot better than a K/n? Is there alot more flow? I am realy interested in the AIS. I like the setup. I am new at this, my first diesel and such. Any help on this would be very appreciated. Thank you.
I've seen a lot of threads here about the downsides of using a k&n filter. They say it doesn't fit well therefore doesn't filter well. Haven't seen or heard 1 complaint with AIS.
Go for it

I just installed the AIS on my truck Monday. I like it, noticed a little better response taking off and also when the turbo kicks in. The filter is huge. Washing my air filter doesn't sound that great. Plus from all I've read the real problem exist within the cheap stock box.
I just installed the AIS on my early 99 tonight, took about 10 mins. I love it so far, and I was going from a tymar style intake.
I just didnt like the idea of an open element. Sur eas my luck would be, something would happen, Battery would boil over, or something else to compromise the filter, and I dont want to have to worry about it. This is the reason I went with the AIS.
When I got the truck, it had the stock airbox in it with a K&N. When I took the airbox top off I literally GASPED...........
The K&N was folded and shrivled, smached down in the bottom of the airbox, not even close to sealing with the airbox top. The edge of the K&N that is supposed to seal, was all gummy and floppy. I would never recommend a K&N for this particular airbox setup.
The AIS is a great setup, and to be honest I dont notice any power loss from the tymar setup I had, in fact it seems to feel that I have gained a little torque. Also, the turbo is now quiet!!!!!
Which I like, just a faint whistle now, where as with the Tymar style, it was pretty loud and you could hear every noise from the turbo.
HINT: If you do install an AIS, check the rubber flaps near the grill where the square airbox induction tube goes. These are air director flaps, there is one that can interfere with the ductwork of the new AIS, as in my case, the opening to the duct faces the spposite direction from the stock setup. This flap got sucked against the opening of the duct when the truck fired up. I went up the road, blowing smoke and whistling to high heavens, with NO Power, then I discovered that it was getting air starved from that flap.
Make a long story short, just make sure the end of your cold air duct is clear and nothing will interfere with it.
My first mod was the gitkit from Banks, I run a K&N with it, I have not had any problems with dust or residue to the turbo. According to Banks testing, this is the filter of choice.I see no reason why the AIS or Tymar would not work just as good.
I just put my AIS in last night. I don't have the GIT kit from banks (they did not have a chip for my code) but I do have the Monster exhaust.
It took me about 3 beers and 1.5 hours to put the AIS in. One of those beers and about .5 hours is the fault of my neighbor who came over to see what I was doing.
I am very happy with the performance package I chose. Including the Diablo Predator.
Measurement of any MPG increase will have to wait as I am still playing with it.
I have a Git kit and a TYMAR. No exp with the AIR. I did notice a BIG difference going from a K & N to the TYMAR with the Banks products. Turbo spools up much faster, and you gotta love the sound!
