OK - I drove a 2001 F250 (V10) home last night for a test drive. Since he dealership knows me very well, they allowed me to keep it overnight and drive it to work to get a real road test.
I compete in SLAP (Sound Looks And Performance) 600+ car audio competitions. I currently run (2) JL 10W3D4 subs powered by a JL 500/1 amp.
When I got out of the truck this morning, I looked under the rear seat to see if I would have enough room to build a new box (I know I would have to lift the rear seat to get adequate air space - I did it in my Dodge too) and I was a bit dissappointed in what I saw.
The truck is as basic as you can get. It has the "rubber" flooring and vinyl seats (bench in front). I am not sure if Ford calls it an extra cab or what - it has the suicide style doors in the rear.
The rear seat does not fold forward, so a box behind the rear seat won't work.
Here is the truck:
Anyone have pics of thier install that matches this style?
I can't help you yet, but I am in the process of getting a 2001 F250 extra-cab(supercab) and I don't know where my sub(s) will go yet either. If you figure something out please share it with us. I'm sure someone has a few install tips? Please?
Q-Forms make a custom sub box for this truck. It fits one 10" sub in a sealed inclosure and i gives you 2 cup holders in the back. If it has the 40-20-40 split front seats JL sells a box that replaces the middle part and mounts the sub in the seeat facing down. They have more info on there site. I have a 2004 xlt 250 with the extended cab (supercab) and i am looking at installing a 10" amplified bazooka.
The thing about that Q logic box is its like a center console behind the stock center console. And theres not much space in the back seat. When someone sits in the back its usually in the middle. So i didnt go with that. I have seen a custom box inside the original center console, it fit an 8 but sounded good.
Supercrewsound said they are "investigating this one" and it is on thier "to do list". Another option I found was ProBox (http://proboxrocks.com/ford/00upf250...tendeddf.shtml)(http://www.decibelsunlimited.com/detail.aspx?ID=39), but it only has a 4.875 mounting depth for the 10's. I was hoping for 6" depth so I could use an RE SE10.
I also found an enclosure from Wodlawn Cabinetry that I think will fit, but still not enough depth. There is just not enough room under there. Still searching. Will probably end up making my own and using a couple RE8'sin a ported box. They only need 4".
Ive decided to go with the JL in the center seat. I am also going with a 250X1 JL amp for the sub and a 75X4 JL amp for the door speakers (both will be installed under the rear seat). I am getting them installed of wednsday and ill post how it turned out.
The stealthbox is &@#*'n AWESOME. You cant even tell there is a sub in the truck (other than to two amps under the rear seat). The sub hits HARD too. I rolled up to a gas station with my radio on and three young kids in a honda or some other fancy import were amazed how good my work truck sounded. This weekend ill snap off some pic of the installed amps and stealth box and post em.
KMAPRO, I just traded in my F-250 Scab. I also had 2 JL W3 10's. Just pop off the seat bottom (using a Torqs-55) and build a rectangular box, set in the speakers and bolt the seat back down on top by drilling small holes in the mounting brackets and screwing them into the box. This raises the seat about 2 or 3 inches and the rear passengers actually like this because it improves visibility.
I have a 2000 supercab with the 70/30 rear seat, and I am in the process of building a box to fit under the 70 section of it. I'm planning on mounting a single JL 10W3v3-2 in the box. Its fairly simple, but in order to do it you do need to rout about .25-.5 of an inch out of the bottom of the box to accomidate the magnet. I'll post back when I get a chance to snap some pics and get the install finished.
