I know that I've seen this posted before but can't find it on search at all.
On the Way home from work today, i glanced at the gauges and saw that my battery gauge was pinned to the top. so i was gonna pull over - lifted my foot off the pedal and boom, the battery gauage falls to normal. back on the pedal, boom, gauge climbs again!
Okay, now i'm clueing in that the gauge is being driven by the engine speed, but I've never ever seen the gauge past normal charge. Nothing else was acting up - lights weren't 'polstergiesting' on me or anything like that.
So, what might this be?
Voltage Regulator going screwy?
I checked the batteries when I got home and no notice of boil over so it doesn't seem to be overcharging. My batteries are no maint. and fairly new.
Alternator maybe? who knows!
Truck fired right back up after the quick check under the hood.
"Kinda worried that it won't turn over in the morning tho"
If I make it into work I'll have the chance of checking the charging system but that's if I make it in .... LOL
Any guideance would be great.

Clean all the cable connections. If its still doing it,have your batts load tested, make sure they are disconnected from each other 1st.A bad connection or a bad cell in a batt will do this.If it still does it then its time to check out the alt/reg.
My guage is kinda screwy. When I first start it in the morining it barely comes out of the red, but every accesory works perfect and lights stay bright, etc. If it is warm, the guage kinda get s to the normal area. I have never head it start slow or act as if it is running the batteries down. My batts are abotu 1-2 yrs old and are still in great shape. Some times when on the highway my guage will go kinda high when I give it a good shot but usually goes back down when I let off. I have just basically ignored it and wrote it off as a bad guage, kinda like the oil press guage.
