I currently own a 2000 supercab lariat 4x4 w/ the power stroke, and have just order a 04 crew cab lariat 4x4 w/ the V10 (4:30 gears so I can put my 4" skyjacker lift and 35" BF Mud's back on). My question is, does anyone have opinons regarding the banks systems, whether it be the stinger or power pack? And if not, can anyone recommend an alternate system to increase horsepower/torque? Would also like the deep, intimidating exhaust sound. I know the specs for the systems and the costs, but would like some thoughts. Thanks all.
Well you could do the same thing yourself, add a K+N cold air intake, cat-back exhaust, chip, headers, etc. and probally get the same power, but.... Banks really does make all there stuff to work together, so you know that when you buy the powerpack it is completely made to make the most power. The RV guys have been running a ton of bank power packs on there V-10s, it sounds like the way to go. I on the other hand plan on a programmer, duals, and filter, i'm not looking for much of a gain though, really just tight shifts and a good sound. I think that the banks headers are what makes all the power in there kit, hopefully someone that has baught a combo from them can tell us what they think, whats it sell for $1100 or so? I can't see it making more then 22rwhp at the most and no more then 2mpg better, I could be wrong....
you are switching from a ps to a v10 and are worried about power?? buy the 6.0 and do the mods on it, then you wont have to even have to think about power.
i will bet that you will never say "i should have saved the money and went with the v10". however you could very well say "i should have went with the diesel when i had the chance"
Well, to respond to that silliness. The powerpack is great for a psd but if you are going to spend the money you might as well get a supercharger for gas. I think you would find it less complex in the long run.I have had some problems dealing with Banks but nothing that did not get worked out.As for a deep exhaust note you could go with a Gibson cat back that would sound nice or if you wanted loud, cut off your cat and put on a flowmaster. That would sound seriously mean.As for the K&N, do a search to see the plethora of reasons as to why you should not put one on a psd. Most notably, they don't filter well enough. Is that a hell of a good enough answer for you?
Ignore all of the gas vs diesel BS... you'll be just fine with whatever choice you make.
The Power Pack from Banks is terrific. I installed one on the '01 F350 I used to own. Product quality, fit, and installation instructions are top-notch IMO.
I installed the Power pack in stages (over a couple of weekends). First, I put on the "Stinger" part of the pack. Noticed an improvement right away. Exhaust note is about the best I've heard for a V10.
The following weekend I installed the headers. They fit perfectly and I never had to go back and re-tighten any bolts. The Y-pipe from Banks is clearly superior to the Ford design. The headers seemed to provide as much additional power as just the "stinger" portion of the kit.
The entire kit, working together, was a definite improvement. Although I never got a chance to dyno the truck with the Power pack installed, my guess is that it provided everything that Banks says it does.
i also installed the complete power package on my 04 f250 5.4l and the banks system fit extremly well and i have not had to retorque the header bolts either, has a nice throaty sound to it.
a bit more on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.
hard to tell , seat of the pants- slight improvement. my main concern was the restrictive y-pipe. i did see installing headers
without getting a custom y-pipe made. banks seems to
be the only company making a y-pipe. i had a 1993 lightning that
bassani made a complete set-up for that i was impressed with. for
money that the banks system cost, it was probably not cost effective. hp and torque claims are about 25 each. the banks system does sound good and i did not the common flowmaster sound.

And wlihntr, if I could afford to get the new 6.0 I would, my financial position has caused me to look for something a little cheaper. I can justify paying $1,900 for the banks vs. the $6K for the diesel.
I appreciate all the info guys. It's been very helpful. As all of you know, stock sucks. I take delivery on the 04 at the end of April. I'll probably run it about 1,000 miles, then the lift goes on and probably the banks.
