It's that time guys, Wires, Cap, Rotor Plugs etc etc....What are you favorite tips? This is the first time doing anything to this motor and I just dont know what to expect etc....What other things are good for maintenace etc. on a 90 F150 with 100K, I am second owner, just bought it 3 months ago so I dont know what was kept up on exactly.....Thanks
Don't use the cap with the aluminum terminals get the brass or copper ones. Use copper plugs, autolite, motorcraft etc (just don't waste money on Bosch platinum). Get FMS or another good performance plug wires 8.5mm or 9mm a little more money but well worth it. Don't forget to do the air filter, pcv valve and check the timing(how old is the O2 sensor?).
I don't know how to check timing but want to do it soon...O2 sensors I am not sure of, I just changed Crank Case Air Filter and Air Filter.....I already have Plugs and Wires but Need to buy Cap and Rotor still....

differential fluid. ford says to do it every 100k miles. tranny fluid would be a good idea too. manual tranny is a real do-it-yourself job, but if its an auto the pros can do a better job. i'd also look into a coolant flush and new brake fluid. for the brake fluid:just take some out w/a turkey baster and put some new stuff in. do this 5 or so times, once every few days.
i find fluid changes to be the most important. they are real cheap to do and make everything run alot smoother. you wont even spend 5 bucks on the brake fluid.
Don't forget to replace the PCV valve filter, I got one on my 91. and the oil pretty much ruined the glue.
When doing a tune up, unless its a POS, dont put POS parts in it.
Ford, autolight. Name brands like that. Coper and Brass will give you the best conductivity. If you could get gold. even better. haha. but a waste.
I've had aluminum caps, they blow!
good wires, not cheepose also. Spend taht extra 20 bucks if you ahve to.
Remember, when replaceing the cap. Take one wire off the old cap. put it in same place on new cap.
easiest way to not get it mixed up.
Tip number 2.
Try and use another vehicle to pick up parts if you can, Cause then you dont have to wait for it to cool down. =D
(done that one before, YEEEEOUCH!)
Did full coolant flush with new upper and lower radiator hose this past fall...Tranny was serviced by the pros this past fall as well...The brake fluid idea sounds good....Where do I pull the old fluid from with the baster? I am definately doing rear diff. this Spring, I just don't know what type of rear diff. oil to use...I think I am going to take rear Diff. cover off and "flush" out all the old crap and then re-install rear diff cover and knew fuid...Is there a gasket on the rear diff. cover?
