im looking for a fan shroud but my truck doesnt have the original engine,360 or 390,instead she has a 428,which shroud should i look for?would the stock shroud work?i went to the local junkyard and didnt find any, didnt find it in the "parts shop" link either.
Pretty well every thing will work.
The only difference I can remember is the thinkness of the radiator 2 core /3 core/4 core.
the thicker the rad the thinner the shroud gets
I could not find one in my area either. but you can get one from dennis Carpenter Ford Reproductions. it is 90 dollars. well it was when I bought mine. the web site is dennis-carpenter.com, Ph# 1-800-476-9653. located in Charlotte N.C. I have dealt with these folks a lot on my 67 F100 and have never had a bad experince. they are not the cheapest around, but put out a very very good product. the catalog is free and so is the tec help, don't worry about the 3.00 fee. trust me they will send you one quick. I hope this helps you out. NO I an not working for Mr Carpenter. they just got a realy good product and the folks are friendly.
Nikwave: Thats pretty cool that you have a 428 cobra jet in one of our old trucks! Can you tell us more about it? I think I remember reading that you recently bought it and drove across a bunch of states to buy it, what type of gas mileage does it get?
Million: I've always heard a four core is best, but never known how to id one. What thicknesses would the different core radiators measure out at?
i just receive a mail from dennis carpenter about the fan shroud saying they dont have one for the 428 engine, but someone in this forum told me the 390 and the 428 have the same dimensions.and i trust more this forum, but before paying $100 i would like to hear some advise from you guys!
The supper big 4 row core radi. is taller. So not any will mount to the bolt pattern. My cooling system is a total 26 qts and a clutch
fan 4x4 with 8'1/2'' cabover camper. I didn't need one even living in the 110 plus temp in the desert. I was running electric fans then and the was for city only then. But if you live in the stop & go stuff and running AC you should have one. So all you have to do is measure the length and width of your core only and thats the size shroud.(It's the Radiator size not the engine) my2 cents.
take the rad. cap off and look inside. If you see 2 rows of oval holes, you have a 2 core. Three rows means a 3 core, and 4 rows of oval holes is a 4 core.
If it's hard to see how many rows you have, it's a hard core...
