Electric door locks not functioning properly

2001 Ex limited 4x2 w/ 50k miles-- The electric door locks frequently do not respond to the control switch, keyless entry pad and/or the remote entry clicker. The problem started-out just involving the rear passenger door and the front passenger side control switch, but has steadly gotten worse over the last 3-4 months and now affects 3 of the 4 doors, both driver and passanger control switches, the keyless entry pad and remote entry clicker. Any ideas on what the problem is and where to start troubleshooting?

The door actuators are most likely what has failed. You will need to take the door panel off to replace them. If I remember correctly, they're only 35 or 40 dollars.

For what it's worth, you have described the problem that I'm having with my '00 Limited 4X4 V10 X. This is identically what is happening on mine. I would like to know how many others are having the same problem. I recently bought an extended warranty from the dealership upon lease buy-out...I expect that this will be covered. It's quite a reach to unlock those doors...even for me at 6'8" and 260 pounds.

after doing a little more research, it seem unlikely to have 3 of 4 door actuators quit working in a 4 month span. Maybe the door module that controls the locks or body controller is going out, but even this doesn't make sense because the electric window and side mirrors work fine. Anyone that wants to speculate...feel free.

Same thing happening to my Excursion

First post on this site!

I have the same problem. They have been failing slowly over the last year. Now 3 are dead and one works about 1/2 the time. Very expensive to have fixed. I just got an estimate from the Ford dealer for $1200 to do all 4 doors. :-staun

OK, so I'm doing it myself. Is it that difficult to get the door panels off and at the actuators? Are there any secrets and what is the best service manual to buy?

Thanks!

Had my door locks replaced twice now under an aftermarket warranty. The last time was about 5 mo. ago. And now again my rear hatch wont lock with the key fob.It will unlock. It is becoming a hassel have to go lock the rear hatch manually every time you park.I have a 2000 PSD with 80,000 mi. I hear this is a common problem. The dealer told me last time that it was 800$ to do all doors and hatch. love this forum

My 2000 ( i just picked up ) also has weak front door locks when electrically activated. Maybe that is why the dealer didn't give me the remote key fobs. I was so excited to pick up the new Ex' I didn't even think about it. If there is a simple solution out there, I would like to know it.

Hi all,

This is a well known issue and the newest actuators fix the problem. The actuators fail faster in warmer climtes. At Fordpartsonline.com all four can be had for under $150.00.

Installation is a 2-4 hour affair, but isn't that hard. Search the threads and you should find several pots on how to do it.

If anyone wants specific part numbers, let me know.

Regards,

Joe
