hauling problem?

I recently was hauling a 16 ft utility trailer with brush loaded high with my 2001 supercrew 5.4L triton. I had no problems while towing. I have noticed a slight burning smell like oil or radiator fluid getting hot but have not seen any leaks or drips from under the hood. Any Ideas? Oh, I only notice this after driving over 30-40 miles after engine has a chance to get hot. Thanks for any input.

Hi super01crew and welcome to the forum

I would crawl under the truck and look for oil leaks, especially above the starter.
Let us know what you find.

I pull a 12 ft. utility trailer with my 97 F-150 4x4 and have the same problem. I havent found the problem, but I do reguarly change the tranny fluid and the axle fluid about every 30-40K.

I have looked under the truck and cannot see any oil leaks anywhere. The engine only has about 40k on it. I'll have to wait till this Saturday 3/20 to drive that far again to get it to heat up then I'll crawl under it and have a look. I may have to put it up on a rack to see everything. I may need to go ahead and change the trans fluid anyway.
