manual choke stick

I purchased a 78 f100 with a 390 in it a while back. I was putting the manual choke cable on going to my edelbrock 750 carb. The cable will not open the choke once i close it. Should i just grease the cable or what. I am about ready to put a electric kit on it because it seem that every manual choke setup i have had has given me problems.

you need two clamps for a manual choke but a electric , adjusted right , is less trouble,bob

are there kits a can get, or do i need to get the edelbrock electric kit?
