Question top speed

Hi I recently bought a 1993 f350 7.3 non turbo, automatic with OD, 4x4. Cant get her over 140 kph. is there some adjustment to be made or is that it for top speed. Only 217,000 kilometers on it.
Some help here would be appreciated.tkz

140 kph. That's like 80-90 mph right. That's about all these trucks are good for. The rev limiter keeps them to around 32-3400 rpm. With gearing and tires that would be about right. If you want more speed you have to get taller tires, taller gears, or have the rev limiter turned up.

If you aren't running out of rpm's then I would say that you are running out of fuel or power. It takes a lot of power to break that magical 90 mph in a truck.

The 5 speed and some tall gears and/or tires might have something to do with that.

4.10's with 33's. Maxed out turbo pump and injectors. Nothin too special yet, but with the soon addition of a custom turbo and h2o injection, I may be able to hang a little better.

Just exactly how fast do ya want to go in a truck anyways. Last time i chekc speed limits were 65 and no were near a 100. I like to drive fast but not in atruck there not made for it plus its an awful lot of weight to stop esspcially if ya got to do it fast.

my speedo on my 91 only goes to 85(or somewhere around there) how are you guys measuring your speed? do the newer trucks's speedos go higher? personally, i enjoy crusing at or just above the speed limit. if i wanted speed, i'd buy a sports car.

I was runnin with my brother in his 01 HO Cummins. His speedo goes to 120. As far as having to stop fast, I would certainly not do this in traffic or on a half way busy freeway. We only do stupid stuff like that on the farm roads around here. It's not that I want to go fast, its just that I want to know what my truck is capable of. If I wanted to die, I'd buy a sports car.

I have freinds that have high speedos, the other way to tell how fast you were going is to let the cop catch you. NOT a good idea.

And you actually trust a speedometer?

I had to put 2" taller tires on mine to make the speedometer right.
A guy I work with has a 2002 Dodge. His is off over 10 MPH. At 60 he thinks he is going 72. And he has taller than stock tires on his now. Was probably off over 15 MPH with stock tires.

That might be part of the reason they think they run so good. Speedo says 75 when they are going 55.

kitsapcountychopper, how tall are your tires?

31" tires and a 5 speed with 5.13's should do 59 MPH at 2500 RPM.

The same setup at 3000 should run 71 MPH
