My calcs say 5 spd, 4.10, 3200 rpm with 33's 99 mph. Rev limiter kicks in around 35-3700. My bros HO cummins has stock size tires, so I trust the speedo better than mine.
My 7.3 will not go over 3300
My 6.9 did not go over 3300
The stock tires mean nothing as for speedo being right.
With 235/85-16 stock tires mine was off 8 MPH fast.
With 285/75-16 tires mine is right on now, nothing changed but tires. This was checked by police radar and verified.
The guy I work with, as of today has 285/75-16 on his 02 Dodge. His speedo is still saying he is going 5 MPH faster than he is. When he had stock 235/85-16 he was off over 15 MPH.
i dont think mine will go over 90. it will cruise all day long at 85, but i have to get going down hill to get at 90. i would think i could with 3.55 gears , i think. maybe its the 33" tires but i wouldn't think so.
Hello every one I have a 89 250 with c-6 and 4.10 rears with
265/75/16 dont know if my spedo is right but when
I am going 55 my tach is at 2600 rpm`s at 60 mph my tach reads
about 2800. my question: Is it ok to run at 2800 rpm`s or is that too high to be running at? I am looking to get some 315/75-16 tires to maby bring down the rpm`s a bit what do you guys think thanks in advance
From reading these forums & the darkSide threads you will find that the sweet spot for these engines to run is 1800-2000rpm.
This is favourable to fuel economy & engine longevity as far as all my research has made me aware of.
2500 is way past the max torque production of these i.d.i.'s & your windmilling the engine to an early grave.
Just my thoughts, open to all other misinterpertations!!
had mine up to 92 yesterday and had almost a 1/4 throttle left to go with 35's and 3.55's.The ole boy in the dodge just couldnt keep up with the bone stock international!!!!!! that was the hardest ive ran the ole girl since ive owned it and felt bad after i did it but figured what the heck,,just had to see what she would do.
My 93 7.3 IDI w the ZF5 has 223k on it. Full electric fuel system. Stock size tires, 3.55 gears in the rear, 2wd, & I got her to do 80 in 4th. Once I tried to take her all the way cuz she’s still governed at stock rpm. I pegged it on the gauge. If I didn’t only have 1 daily I’d take it all the way w a speedometer on my phone. I’ll bet I could get her to 120 in 5th.
I've done 120 in my parents Kia Sedona, & it was a tad bit sketchy. Normal Hwy driving I do 70. If I keep it at 68-70 I've gotten 20mpg in the past, but don’t quote me on it.
Diesel Mike, you dug up an old thread from 04, that is 18 years old.
Those guys are no longer around. Maybe some of those were that age
when posting.
120MPH? your nuts doing it in one of these trucks. These were were
built for work, getting jobs done, hauling heavy loads.
Great if you get one going that fast, stopping is kind of cool also.
The faster you go, the more fuel you will use.
I usually drive 62 - 65, some time on a long down grade going into Reno
she will creep up to 70+.
