Hi I havent been working on my truck for a while, due to a broken wrist, but before I got the engine out, front sheet metal off, and striped out the interior. All my cab corners are going to need to be replaced exept for the right rear. My question is does any one know if a replacement a cab corner would be big enough to cover the filler neck for the gas tank since I'm planing to relocate the the gas tank and i want to patch up the indentation where the filler neck goes through anyway? Another question I had was has any one ever herd of a 410 mercury engine and if so is it any good.
I'm pretty sure that one from Mid-Fiftys in Tenn. does. I know that one from Carolina Classics does not (that's what I used on my '53 and the fit was really bad, had to massage it quite a bit.)
But I do know the rear cab corners from Sy do cover the filler neck. I know because I did it my self and also grafted the Hagens filler neck & door myself, requiring me to trim back quite a lot of what I'd installed in the repair.
Thanks for the info guys. I'll definately stay away from caralina classics.
53Merc,
Do you have a number or website for those cab corners. I figure it will be alot easier to replace the cab corner and the filler neck indentation at the same time instead of replacing the cab corner and then fabbing up a patch panel.

Just spent 15 minutes searching the web for Hagens ( sp?) website and couldn't find it. I believe he advertises in the back of the Truck Mags and is in Arizona if I'm not mistaken...
I'll look and see if I have his email but I may have lost it in a former crash or formewr PC...

You don't allow private email in your profile, so I can't give you Pete Hagan's email address because the FTE dosen't allow one to send email addresses either.
My brother in law has a rear corner set for 53-55 and he informed me this weekend he is going to bail on the project. I have the corners on the shelf, among many other new parts we won't be using so email me if you're interested. If not, that's cool too.

Yes, I got a situation here. I bought my truck and the wife's brother thought it would be neat to have one too. I encouraged it because I had no intention of doing a body off on mine. So off we go to Kansas and buy this 53 F100. It is fairly stock except the drivetrain is missing. Has bondo in it but is very restorable. Clean frame, decent interior and such. A guy who isn't real picky could block it out and be on the road before terribly long. The truck would be a driver with a engine and trans, but body definitely needs redone for any show truck dreams. Then we proceed to disassemble it just a bit, but not too much. We start buying nine inch diffs, and way over two grand in resto parts which are clogging my garage and shed now.
Then some S.O.B. from Afghanistan has his boys fly some jets into a couple buildings we are partial to and I suddenly have 1/4 the free time I used to until who knows when. Then Jeff moves to town where it is illegal to spit in your own front yard. The project ain't gonna happen as he can't do it himself. He wants me to trade him beds (his is new and disassembled) and then he'd have a somewhat complete looking truck. I think a part out is the only hope of a 65% investment recovery. We basically have a complete truck less drivetrain. I'll call him tonight and ask him to put a price goal on a part out. If I could off the cab and a few other big pieces, I think that's the best route. If not, then both our old ladies are less than pleased. In any case I have a bunch of resto parts to sell for him and he could still sell a fairly complete truck. I already bought most of these parts for my own truck. I don't need them. We screwed this plan up big.
If he has a reasonable number, I'll place a classified. I already have a list I can share with anyone interested.

fenders,
none of my beeswax of course but with me being a stocker type guy, I hate to see reasonably good trucks as you described being chopped up or parted out. Do you think you can his money back by selling as is, and selling your parts piece meal or include them with the truck as part of the price?????
Why not try the FTE Classifieds. I would like to see the pics of this truck.
Good luck! abe

Yeah, the 410 is a 390, only bigger. No problem with a 410. Cool valve covers, too.
With the right bellhousing and front timing cover, that 410 would bolt into your truck like it was stock. Exhaust system would be a challenge, you'd probably have to fit a crossover to avoid the clutch, brake, and steering stuff on the driver's side.
