F350 height with a load

How much will a F350 4X2 W/ 8' bed "squat" with a load of 1800 lbs in the bed?
The actual bed rail height is 55" without any load even though the Ford specs said it was 53". If I need to, can I lower the the rear any?

My 5ver is 58" on the over hang and I just want to make sure that I can tow a level trailer with enough clearance B/T rails and trailer.

Our new 04 F350 4X2 SRW 4.3 V10 is at the Ford dealer waiting for us to pick it up, but before I spend $30K I want to make darn sure it will be Ok.

Thanks
Dave

I'm not much help, but I'll pass on my experiance.

My 28 ft Montana (12,000 LB) has a hitch weight of about 2000 lb. The truck rear drops a few inches when I hook up, but I have not measured it. However the truck appears level when hooked up (titled forward a bit with no load).

To get 6 inch clearance on the rails, I have my Reese 15K Pro hitch (Pro series tilts both ways) set at full height. The fiver rides a few inches higher in the front than in the rear, but it is not noticible. I checked the weight on both 5er axles and it is the same, and the handling is fine (after adding a TrailAir pin box).

The 350 (4x4?) has 4 inch blocks on the rear axle, while the 250 has only 2 inch blocks. Some folks have swaped to the 2 inch blocks on their 350 just to lower it. I haven't seen a need, but it is nice to know the option existis.

Don't know if any of this is relevant.

I've got a F-350 s/c..with 11,200 springs, I had to get the 5th wheel trailer axles dropped 3 in ( trailer raised) to get it to set level, with enough clearance , not to hit the back of the rails..Still only have about 5 inches, instead of the required 6 inches. The truck didn't drop anymore than a couple of inches with the load. I pull a 37 footer

Coro,

Thanks for the input. I can't pull my 9500# 5er with my 99 250 light duty 5.4 anymore, so I guess that I will get the new 350 and try to figure it out as I go. I can always run a bit high in the front like you do.

Thanks again for the help
Dave

Basser,

I have 3" clearance as it stands now without hooking up. I hope that once I load the truck with passangers, fuel and hitch plus the 1600+lbs king pin weight, it might give me 3 inches of drop.

I can't flip my axles because they are the torsion ones.

Even if I don't get the full 3" drop I can raise the hitch an inch or two and run a bit high in the front like Coro.

Thanks for the input this is helping me feel beter

Dave

Watch on the height, the more you raise the nose of the trailer the less weight on the hitch...could cause handling problems..

I had them swap my 4x4 Super Duty to the 2" blocks at the factory... They called it a F-250.
