Help! Truck "jumping" when put into drive.

I have a 1975 f250 4x4 with a 360/c6. Whenever I put it in drive, it wants to jump into gear no matter how hard i press the brakes. The tranny seems to want to engage at too low of an rpm. Is there a way to adjust this?

Sounds like the t/c is staying locked up if the tranny has that feature. Might need a new torque convertor. There is a way to adjust the shift point, the detent cable goes down to the tranny. Are the shift points lower than normal?

It's shifting fine, and it idles fine when I'm stopped for a stop light, but when I shift it into drive it makes a jerk forward then dies if I don't let off the brakes. thanks

The vacuum modulator may be bad or need adjustment. There is no cable on a C6. You may need some transmission work. I will move this thread to the tranny forum where the transmission experts are.
