Mechanical FI for offroad use?

I do trails and mud bogs mostly and was just curious. Everyone says all the rage for off-camber operation, EFI is the best. I have no doubt of this. I know that the go-fast crowd is big on MFI, but was trying to think of the downsides of MFI for off-road use also. No floats to worry about; all you have is a metering block, a butterfly to control ait intake, a fuel pump, and 1 or many injectors. Idle may possibly be an issue, but aside from that, I can't think of any other downsides. Any thoughts?

IMHO, just a giant step backwards. It works ok for WOT, but how are you going to tune it for partial throttle operation? Yeah, I know about the Bosch CIS system, and it was a real PITA.
Aftermarket computer controls are the way to go.

Mechanical fuel injecton is not your friend. It's a PITA to tune and you'll most likely be chasing the tune up every time you make an altitude change. Unless you have previous personal experience with mechanical injection, I'd stay away from it.

If you want fuel injection, go with electronic of some sort.

Mechanical fuel injection, like Enderle or Hilborn, where you have a belt-driven fuel pump, one or several butterfly's to meter air, and a metering block that varies fuel in direct proportion to the open-ness of the butterfly, and one or several injectors. Since there is no electronic interaction, the only problem would be in getting the correct injectors and idle/startup conditions. I spoke with a friend of mine, and he mentioned Enderle and said that there is no delay between pedal-push and GO!, but they can be something of a pain to get just right.
