89 Ranger Clutch System
I've been reading all of the post on Ford's hydraulic clutch problems, because mines been slowly dying for about a year now. I have a 1989 Ranger, 2.9, 5 speed, extended cab, with 4x4. It has been a great truck with only 85,000 miles.
I spent yesterday bleeding the system again, and have come to the conclusion that it's time to get it replaced. I've also made the decision to call my usual mechanic Monday morning to see what he thinks it will cost to replace everything (clutch & presure plate).
Is there anything else I should have him look at while he's in there.
If the cost is higher than I think it should be, I'll be replacing it myself. It doesn't look to be to bad of a job. I was wondering if I can get the transmission out without removing the exhaust? I hate working on the exhaust.
Thanks for listening. Great Forum!

Just got my 1989 4x4 Ranger back from the shop. New clutch kit $125.35, clutch slave $104.00, changed trans fluid $3.00, transfer fluid $1.80, one u-joint $12.98, brake fluid $1.00. Labor cost was $200.00.With tax the yotal was 479.50.
Everything works great now.
I didn't think that was too bad?
