Oil pan replacement

Very soon, I am going to be replacing the oil pan on my '80. I ave a 4.9 and I think I remember hearing something about having to lift the engine slightly to clear the crossmember. Is this true?

Remove the two engine mount nut on both sides and raise the engine by the harmonic balancer. Put block of woods on the space created on the engine mount and engine as the engine is raised up to prevent engine dropping too hard in case it slips.

Some folks said to remove the transmission mount to get more clearance.

Do you think I will have enough room without reomving the tranny mount?

I'd remove the tranny mount, it only takes another 5 minutes. I had to do that when I replaced my oil pan. Fred

Yes! at least remove the nuts securing the transmission isolation pad to the frame. You will be glad you did. You do not want to put your drivetrain into a bind.
