hey, i have a little problem right now.... im a typical ford loving teen, who just spites any chevy owner who can beat me in a race in either of my fords. the problem is, right now, my 95 f150 was anihilated by a 98 chevy with a vortec 350 in it. the solution, i figure, is to get my 65 F100 back on the road, just to smoke this guy's chevy in a sort of 'rematch'. the problem im facing right now, is that it will cost me about 2000 beans to get my 65 on the road, so it will pass mechanical, since its been in the process of a frame-up. that leaves me with about 500 bucks to spend on my 390, which i believe is out of a 65ish galaxie, or something, with a 2 barrel carb. what i would like to know, is what, in everyone's vast knowledge, should i do with my 500 bucks to pep-up my 390, and how much power will it have?
What tranny is hooked to that 65? You will have a few issues here. First off, that 390 will make plenty of power, in fact, the issue will be putting it to use. My guess is that you have the long throw/low gear 4-speed in there. The 390 will toast the tires and it will take you a while to change gears ie. losing a hole shot. The 390 has probably 250 HP, add a set of headers and have at it. You can also put a factory 4-barrel manifiold and carb for cheap, but that may add to your problems.

sorry for the late reply.... in the truck right now, i have a 4 speed toploader, but im not too sure what kind of ratios... in fact, ive never even driven the truck with it... im also trying to find a short throw for it, anyone have any ideas on who would make one?
$500 is going to be kind of difficult. Let me see... I would get...
1. Ford GT iron intake, $50 - DSC.
2. Crane 343901 cam $110 - Jegs
3. Crane lifters, $90 - Jegs
4. Crane valve spring, $64, Jegs
5. Dynomax headers (or brand of your choice) ~$100 - Jegs
6. Holley carb, 600 CFM, $230, - Northern Auto Parts
Total: $644. I'm sure you can scrounge up $144 somewhere.
Jegs can be found at www.Jegs.com, and DSC can be found at www.dscmotorsport.com. Call up DSC for the stuff I marked Jegs or Northern Auto Parts, they might have lower prices.
If you have the tranny with the shift lever that is about 3 feet tall, you probably don't have a top loader in there. If that's the case, there are no short shifters for this tranny either...
